Jay walked into the New Year’s party with a little bit of a swagger, maybe it was the intoxication of the night that he felt or maybe he already knew he was about to embark on the beginning of a relationship with his future wife. Regardless, Jay was on a mission with a short timeline and a strong game plan. For weeks he would have casual “run-ins” with Roshni. At first just saying hi and talking about the weather, then exchanging pleasantries and talking about mutual friends, but tonight he was on a mission to get to know her better. He wanted to stop merely being acquaintances and see if the girl that caught his eye could also capture his heart. And so he was on a mission to get her phone number and a date. She was a friend of a friend; she was beautiful inside and out, funny beyond her years and extremely intelligent.
So he walked into the party with a bottle of fancy imported wine and maneuvered his way over to Roshni. He opened the conversation talking about the origins of the wine, the grapes used, the area the wine was from and offered her a glass at first and then another. As they sat and talked, the conversation whirled at first about wine, then about the city and finally about restaurants. Jay was able to steer the conversation exactly in the direction he wanted to go. He wanted to find out about her favorite restaurants and where she hasn’t gone. He was a romantic at heart and wanted their first date to be one that she would never forget.
Jay succeeded in his plan, as Roshni even recounted that very night as they laughed and reminisced with friends and family at their wedding garba. The garba was MC’d by the sisters of Jay and Roshni as they kept college rivalries alive, poked fun at their siblings and welcomed another family into their lives. Family and friends put on elaborate dances for the soon to be bride and groom, including a Michael Jackson Thriller remake and a tribute to “Jay Ro.”
