Wedding Planning Wednesday: Caring for your Engagement Ring and Jewelry

Now that you’ve got your beautiful wedding day jewelry it’s important to follow some important tips to keep your ring safe and sparkly not only for your wedding day but forever!

Insurance

Your wedding rings and jewelry are a hefty investment that will last a lifetime. For this reason its integral to have your precious jewels insured in the event of loss or theft.  Look into getting insured through your home owners or renters insurance or consider taking out a separate policy just for your gems. You’ll need to have all the important details about your jewelry and photos.

Clean Your Jewelry

To help keep your ring and other pieces of jewelry dirty and cloudy from lotions, skin oils and everyday dirt,  clean your gems often and well. Your jewelry can be soaked in warm water with mild dishwashing solution and little scrubbed with a soft brush.  Cleaning solutions from professional jewelers is also a good option.

*Tip* Right before your big day or an important event, your jeweler can professionally steam clean and polish your gems to give it that extra sparkle.

Visit Your Jeweler

Ring and jewelry maintenance should also include twice-yearly visits to your jeweler who can check the integrity of the prongs on your ring  and other jewelry settings. A loose setting can lead to loose diamonds and gems.
