You wouldn’t have known it. It would have been impossible to know even standing next to Tara on her wedding day, speaking to her and interacting with her and her sisters; it was impossible to know but she was running on fumes. Tara in a past life was a marketing and branding guru so she knew that little details matter. She knew that with the right details her wedding would be perfect (and it was), so even with legions of friends and family by her side to assist she wanted to personally attend to her wedding details. Tara was up all night putting the finishing touching on an amazing and well thought out wedding. From the detailed gift baskets with monogrammed glasses, to the table cards all depicting different “stories” in their love life to the beautiful wedding inspiration board, Tara and Vikas had the wedding details down cold and it truly showed.
Although Tara was running on fumes, she looked absolutely gorgeous on her wedding day; she spent part of the morning getting her hair and makeup done to look like the perfect traditional South Indian Bride all the while sending love notes via text to Vikas.
Vikas was on the other side of the hotel just waking up and looking like the dapper, stylish and smiling man his friends and family know him as was loving HIS day (don’t tell Tara). Only on his wedding day the sparkle in his eye, his smile and the hop in his step was just a little bigger. As Vikas got ready his family was there to assist him, laugh with him and make sure he looked perfect.
I was firmly aware how important a part dancing played in the lives of Tara and Vikas, as witnessed from their Sangeet and the many interactions with the two of them. However I was not aware of all the talent of all their guests until the Barat proceeded. As the Barat began what seemed to be a small 50 person crowd morphed into a 200 person all out Bhangra event whose excitement, moves and rhythm would have scared away a small village. The entire party was dancing feverously, reciting every word and completely mesmerized by the music and the event.
As the processional was about to begin, Vikas was facing the isle that Tara was to walk down but unbeknownst to his knowledge there was to be a draped cloth between him and his beautiful bride, although he could hear the gasps of excitement and watch his families faces smile in excitement as Tara walked down the isle; he was unable to see her. As the cloth lowered and their eyes met for the first time, smiles and excitement was all you could see on the faces of these two. For the rest of the ceremony they would hold hands, steal glances at each other and never stop smiling.
After the ceremony we were able to take Tara and Vikas as well as their fun loving bridal party out for some entertaining pictures which included carrying people, making fun of other people, jumping over even more people and . . . socks… The pictures may tell a better story than I can explain.
The reception was amazing, with heartfelt speeches filed with quick jabs at the couple, dances that were nothing short of exceptional (even special performances by Lady Gaga!) and toasts that were nothing short of sensational (even made Lady Gaga cry!). As the entertainment ended for the evening, the music began to thump and kept everyone on the dance floor celebrating Tara and Vikas’ love. And although you weren’t able to see how tired Tara was or know what wedding details Tara created, you were able to look into their eyes, their smiles and their hearts to see the love these two share for each other.
