Life goes by too fast to not enjoy the little things. People no longer stop to smell the roses or to call a friend. It’s all about facebook and text messages; and although it makes us more efficient, it doesn’t make us better friends or honestly more connected to those around us. A few years back Neeva and I made a promise to put away our phone, the internet and text messages and focus on us. Our love and enjoy the life we work so hard to create. Two years ago we went to Las Vegas, last year we went to Puerto Rico and this year we explored Italy. Hand in hand we remembered why we work so hard 50 weeks of the year; simply for two weeks of absolute perfection.
Venice; the city of love, was THE perfect vacation (stop 1 of 4). Maybe in retrospect it’s because it’s the city we got engaged in. Maybe because it was the first time I had ever been outside of the United States on a vacation that didn’t have us visiting family. Or maybe because it was a 12 day trip with the woman of my dreams. Regardless of the reason, it was simply perfect and exactly what we needed (she got a big rock..I got a sweater).
With no internet, no phone and no connection to the outside world, Neeva and I fell right back in love. Waking up early and seeing the sights, getting tired by 10AM and stopping for a “quick” coffee that had us people watching, laughing and discovering new things all the time. We would sight see from before the sun came up and wouldn’t stop until we had an authentic Italian dinner with all the trimmings. We would be sightseeing; “ohhing” and “ahhing” at every turn and every amazing item, from 14th century architecture to the newest Gucci bag.
The food and Italy was AMAZING, the best three hours you would every spend. Eating course after course, drinking amazing wine and realizing that this where the word ‘family’ truly originated. After the hours of walking it was a happy treat to enjoy food the way the Italians did; although there weren’t all too many Soprano like sightings it was still my favorite part of our trip.
It was simply a perfect vacation, an amazing time to just fall into each others arms, laugh until our sides hurt and enjoy life side by side. On our last day in Venice after we saw all the sights we were dying to see we simply got lost. We walked in random directions, shopped at random stores and simply immersed ourselves in the culture. It was amazing discovering new alleyways, canals and Venetian artwork. We were simply in awe and in love, it was a perfect end to a perfect city, lost in each others arms.
Here are a few of our favorite images from our two day trip to Venice. More cities and images on the way.
P.S. The only channel in English in Venice was MTV and thankfully they were running a Jersey Shore Marathon, I guess even the Italian love the Jersey Shore.
Image of the Grand Canal at sunset, it was such a beautiful view.
So a few good friends told us to eat gelato every single day while in Italy. Needless to say we upheld that request and it was worth it!
The Rialto Bridge where we got engaged
Just love the simplicity of an open air family dinner, it looks absolutely amazing.
