It wasn’t your typical relationship and they were not your typical couple. When Darshni met Kush for the first time when one of her friends wanted to set her up with him; her first words were “ew him?” A laughable barely believable sentiment that after seven years of dating still make them both laugh. Kush and Darshni went to the same college, had a handful of mutual friends but didn’t really know each other. Kush was a DJ spending his nights and weekends covering corporate events and DJing at night clubs where as Darshni spent her waking moments choreographing dances for a dance team, working in the family business and getting to class when she had a spare moment.
Their paths finally crossed as Kush was DJing one evening and Darshni and her friends come to the club for a night out; Kush was instantly drawn to Darshni and played every song he could to try to keep her on the dance floor; after being introduced by mutual friends they parted ways but Kush couldn’t get her out of his mind. He used his charm, dashing smile and the promise of a good meal to win her over and over time (seven years to be exact) they became inseparable. Kush would DJ until the early morning hours and then hop in a car to drive for three hours to see Darshni when she worked in New Jersey, Darshni would make the trip down to support Kush as he got his own businesses and ventures off the ground and they both would come together for an amazing meal surrounded by family and friends.
Darshni and Kush’s Potomac Maryland Indian Wedding took place over almost a week with a multitude of events including a Mehndi that rivaled most receptions with the amount of food, dancing and drinks. They had a Garba night/Sangeet night where friends and family from all over the world came together to dance the night away, Kush had a Grah Shanti Puja and Haldi where the women of his family put haldi on him to make him glow and they of course had their wedding.
Darshni and Kush spent the night prior to their wedding in the company of family and friends as they laughed, danced, remincied and partied the night away. And although they both got less than two hours of sleep no one could tell as the smile on Darshni’s face beamed from ear to ear and Kush lived in a dream world from the early morning hours. We took Darshni and Kush to the DC War Memorial in Washington DC for their couples and bridal party pictures before heading back to Julia Bindeman Center for a picturesque and entertaining baraat capped off with dueling dholi’s followed by a beautiful ceremony and fantastic reception.
