Smiles and New Friends.

It was one of those moments when you stop in your tracks flabbergasted, your jaw drops to your feet without a sound uttered and you question everything you ever knew or ever believed in. Madhe; our tour guide and driver in Bali; who by the end of the trip became a friend. He was the perfection of the Balinese culture, extremely kind, very religious and completely hospitable. When we told him about the photo shoot he happily agreed to help any way he could; he woke up early, picked us up and happily helped us by holding lights, reflectors and bags of equipment. The photo shoot was at the exotic Taro Elephant Park in Ubud, Bali. As we entered the safari park Madhe’s eyes glistened and a smile crept up on his face that lit up the park. He was mesmerized by the beautiful elephants trolling through the fields, the luscious jungle safari that we were photographing in and the majestic backdrop that housed the safari park.

During a little downtime Neeva saw the sheer joy in Madhe’s eyes and the smile on his face and playfully asked him when he planned on taking his daughter to the elephant park. Matter of factly and quite woefully Made simply stated that his two year old daughter absolutely loved animals and coming to the elephant park would be something that she would always remember but that a single ticket was the equivalent of two months salary and thus he would never be able to bring his family here.

Astounded; Neeva and I did the only thing people on their honeymoon do; smile, we bought Madhe and his family tickets to the elephant park. Madhe’s daughter paid us back with beautiful hugs and a wonderful smile. Seeing her smile from ear to ear made our hearts smile and I personally think we made out better.

Below are a few pictures of Madhe and his family 🙂
