Wedding Planning Wednesday: Choosing a Caterer

Choosing Your Wedding Caterer Finding a caterer for your wedding reception is a big to-do. A lot will rest on your budget but also on personal taste, wedding style and your venue. When it comes to wedding catering services there are numerous options available and it is up to you to pick which you feel are right for your wedding day. If your venue can provide food then you may have the option of using the in-house catering services.

Most venues, such as hotels and restaurants, will offer catering as part of their wedding packages and this can often be the most cost effective choice. Many venues will allow you to bring in external caterers if you wish but do ask first before you go booking any wedding catering services. If your venue is a hall or an outdoor location then you will have to book a catering company to provide your wedding menu. You will probably have many caterers to choose from, but ensure that they can cater a wedding, have done so before and have the required insurance. Always ask for references and enquire about how big an event they can cater for, especially if you are having a large wedding.

Whether you choose in-house catering or external caterers it is important that you arrange some tasting sessions so you can try the food and discuss menus. Most caterers and venues will offer set menus which have perhaps been designed from popular wedding menus and which have the broadest appeal to you and your guests. Some packages may include drinks and waiting staff. Always enquire as to what is included in the price and about any additional fees such as staff overtime and taxes. Remember to have fun with your meals. Add a modern twist to traditional meals, make it you!

Bali Engagement Session

bali-engagement-session

Photographing an engagement session in Bali, Indonesia was truly a dream come true. The biggest problem we had was where to shoot, not because there were not enough unique, beautiful locations, but because there were so many it was near impossible to choose a location that truly encompassed the Balinese culture.

We started our session at the Ubud Elephant Safari Park. The owners and trainers of the Safari Park were amazing to work with, allowing us to choose which of their 30+ elephants we wanted to work with. Our elephant, Taro, was sweet, gentle and simply stunning.

Marielle and Deon gracefully walked beside Taro, feeding and petting her lovingly along the way after which they rode Taro for some unique and stunning images. Our couple, currently residing in Australia, frequent Bali to visit family and friends. They know the tradition and cultures becoming our tour guides for part of the session. They helped us pick out the hot spots to check out and romantic locations to visit while around the island.

They were thrilled when we arrived at the elephant park, having never worked with animals of any type, let alone elephants, in our shoots we were beyond excited as well! We played with the elephants and walked through rice paddies and a jungle adjacent to the safari park.

After the safari park we stopped at Bali’s famous Tegallalang village, known for its picturesque rice paddies. The Balinese rice terraces go back over 2,000 years when farmers with primitive hand tools began carving the stepped terraces out of steep hill sides. Generation after generation has extended and kept them in meticulous shape. These paddies were simply breath taking, and to think, everything is maintained without complex machinery.

Date Nights :)

“And the days fly by like paper in the wind”

That statement is so true it hurts. We get so caught up with the hustle and bustle of life that
sometimes we forget to stop for a moment to enjoy and celebrate life. Working literally from
dawn to dusk improving our craft, making our processes more efficient, and providing an
outstanding finished product, sometimes we forget to take a step back and enjoy it all. When
Sunny and I were married we made a promise to ourselves. We promised each other that at least
once every few weeks we would go out on date night. Nothing necessarily fancy or over the top,
but something that took us out of the house for a few hours and gave us time to catch up on life.
These are my favorite days.

From hitting a few balls at the driving range to dinner and a movie, we always have a great
time. Our last date night was extra special because we were joined by my brother Nimit and
his girlfriend Kanika. It was national margarita day (who knew there was such a holiday?!) and
we took full advantage! We toasted to good times, times to come and to repeating our double
date nights. We walked around National Harbor, taking full advantage of the beautiful 70 degree
February weather and even stopped into the Peeps store, challenging each other to a spicy Mike
& Ike competition. The boys won this time, but we’ll get you on the next date night!
