Traveling to the Country

It was one of our summer time rituals since the day we started dating. It was a yearly excursion to just enjoy ourselves and pick up a few souvenirs for the months ahead. We loaded the car hand in hand with fancy waters, curiously named sodas and 16 ounce monster redbulls and drove to the country…you know thirty minutes west of Fairfax, Virginia. Every year we always make a day out of it; head off to a vineyard or two; pretending to understand wine, pretending to care about cheese but in all honesty just to get away together with a bottle of wine and enjoy the scenery. We always do a wine tasting or two and then simply walk around the beautiful grounds, looking at the grapes, the beautifully landscaped vineyard, the tasting room and just enjoying our time together, as a couple; in love. Enjoying the peace and serenity of the country life.

We own a Winery!

After years of scraping and saving we finally did it, we bought a Winery! A beautiful, bountiful winery to make our very own batches of wine (unfortunately my names for the wine have been rejected thus far). Not many of you may know this, but my retirement goal is to own a vineyard on Nappa Valley, giving tours on my vineyard to pretentious wine drinkers who don’t know the value of a ’2 buck chuck’ and sipping on the fruits of my labor in my rocking chair on the front porch with my dog named Rusty.

And although we haven’t gotten THAT far yet, I think owning a winery is a step in the right direction. We bought our winery, where people buy most important things in life, Costco.

Like a kid in a candy store (and Costco is the biggest) our eyes fixated on the winery in a box and we had to have it! Thoughts of traveling the earth for the greatest grape, becoming the worlds greatest wine maker and winning countless awards for the perfect wine raced through out heads. After discussing back and forth that purchasing something completely unnecessary was both economical and career enhancing we bought it (or I simply begged and Neeva finally gave in).

So on our customary date night/ night to have fun (apparently watching reruns of Friends isn’t fun) we made wine…well maybe…we will let you know how it turns out…apparently it takes four weeks.

Barboursville Vineyards: Wine & More!

Neeva and I have been talking about going wine tasting in Virginia forever! It was one of those things you’d love to do, you write down, you have all intentions of doing…but never get to. Kind of like cleaning out the garage or just cleaning in general. But this time we put our minds to it, after a little research (aka Google) we found the perfect vineyard, on the perfect road in the perfect backdrop that was only two hours away!

We decided to venture out with our close friends, Mani and Preethi, on a picturesque drive to the historic Barboursville Vineyards outside of Charlottesville, VA. We were given a short tour of the barrel and processing rooms, tasted over 16 different wines (yes sixteen, and yes that is why we picked this vineyard), bought a case or two (business expense?), and then ventured out to the vineyards! We happened to have our camera and decided to take a few pictures of our fabulous friends and the beautiful vineyard!

After a quick run through the vineyards we sauntered over to the historic Jefferson ruins built in 1814 located on the Barboursville property, a historic site we just had to see and photograph. This breath taking structure exuded Thomas Jefferson’s signature architecture, from tall columns to an octagonal room, we just could not resist from snapping a few shots (yes even after sixteen wine tastings we remembered a fact or two)!

Preethi donned a stunning blue knee length cocktail dress that shimmered in the sunlight and matched her personality to a t, playful yet elegant. She was a star in front of the camera- her eyes twinkled as she posed naturally.

Mani was hesitant in front of the camera but not for long! After consuming 16 wine samples and breaking a few glasses in the process his personality shinned as he cracked jokes and made us all laugh.
