Wedding Planning Wednesday: Top Trends for 2012!

Can you believe it, 2012 is half over but wedding season has really just getting into the swing of things! We’ve photographed several weddings already and we’ve noticed some pretty cool things that our couples are incorporating into their big day. So we decided instead of the typical Wedding Planning Wednesday post, why not a post about the top wedding trends (as we’ve seen them) for 2012!

Long Sleeves!

Brides can thank Kate Middleton for this wedding fashion trend — long sleeves! Strapless dresses and short sleeved lenghas will still rule the bridal aisle, but expect more coverage for 2012 with a sexy twist. Think: sheer backs and illusion sleeves.

Mix & Match Bridesmaids outfits

More than ever before, bridesmaid dresses mirror the best trends from the fashion runways and red carpets. The dress, in fact, is one of the season’s most appealing fashion statements, and both the bride and her attendants will delight in the selection. Whether sleeveless, off-the-shoulder, a sari or slavaar, there’s a look to suit every taste and to highlight the best features of each member of the bridal party! Also consider mixing the colors! Perhaps a few girls in one color and a few others in a completely different color! Have fun with it but ensure it still coordinates!

Cake Pops!

Cake pops are tiny cakes, rolled in melted chocolate and stuck onto a lollipop. Each bite is consistently fresh, delicious and meticulously dipped and decorated! Cake pops have taken over the popularity of last year’s cupcakes! They are fun, colourful and come in so many different flavours and designs. Have your baker design them to match your decor or overall theme. You can really have fun with these creations!

Statement Lighting

Appropriate lighting can really help set the desired mood and atmosphere for your big day. Think pin spot lighting to highlight items such as your centerpieces or your cake. Consider uplights to wash your room in a specific color and gobos for designs or your names in lights! Also remember that the layout of your reception site can determine how you’re going to use lighting techniques!

Long Rectangular Tables

This trend is coming back in full swing! Long tables are absolutely great for face-to-face conversations! The long table is being reintroduced to wedding receptions along with seated meals as a conversation-friendly dining option. Long tables allow for more interaction with other wedding guests, and depending on the size of your guest list is, friends and loved ones can dine together! Be sure to first ensure your venue can accommodate long tables vs squares and rounds!

Breathtaking Candles

At your evening wedding reception, it may be easier and less expensive to use candles instead of flowers for decorations and as table center pieces. Candles are easier to deal with and create a subdued and elegant ambiance for your reception. There is also so so so much that your decorator can do with candles!
