We introduced our beautiful couple to our loyal readers a few months ago when we displayed their lovely Georgetown engagement session. Over the past few days you have been able to experience Anjali and Davinder’s pre-wedding events, and now, as usual we have saved the absolute best for last. It was a ceremony and wedding fit for royalty.
From their stunning décor and floral arrangements to their designer clothing and breath taking jewels, it was pure perfection.
Anjali’s Sangeet was the night before the wedding and although she spent the better part of the night awake getting ready for her wedding, the glow in her eyes and the constant smile would have had fooled anyone that she slept the night before. Anjali began getting ready before the crack of dawn and started to get her makeup done at 7AM.
Davinder was less than five miles away still in bed as his bride was almost ready and like most men Davidner was ready quickly but spent quality time with his wonderful family as they prayed together and completed pre-wedding rituals.
Anjali and Davinder’s began with their wedding ceremony at the Guru Gobind Singh Foundation in Potomac, MD. Davinder had an exciting barat with his family showing off their bhangra moves to a live dholi. With the energy levels high they soon proceeded to the milini ceremony. The milni ceremony is when the bride’s close relatives give a warm welcome to the groom and his relatives with flowered garlands. Rose water is also sprinkled on them. Shabads are sung and the ardaas is recited as the procession enters the Gurudwara.
As Davinder sat in the Gurudwara eagerly anticipating the arrival of his soon to be bride, Anjali; the excitement on his face could clearly be seen. He was ready to marry the woman of his dreams. Davinder’s smile grew as Anjali was escorted in to the Gurudwara. They sat next to each other to attend the Guru Granth Sahib Kirtan.
In the official marriage ceremony, the groom’s family drapes a pink chunni around his neck. They tie one end of the chunni to the pallu of the lehanga worn by the bride. Thereafter, the bhaiji of the Gurudwara recites hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, which are then sung and the bride and groom, who encircle the Guru Granth Sahib. While walking around the Guru Granth Sahib, the groom leads the bride, with a sword in his hand.
Surrounded by family and close friends, it was official, Anjali and Davinder were now married!
The wedding day’s festivities continued at the North Bethesda Mariott; the location of their elaborate reception. It has been said that a couple glows with love and excitement the most on their wedding day. Watching Anjali and Davinder as they prepared for their reception proved this. They could not keep their eyes off each other. They stole glances at each other and exchanged sweet smiles as they got ready, walked together for the first time as husband and wife and took family portraits during their cocktail hour.
The stunning mandap and décor drew guests into the reception hall but it was the couple’s arrival that brought everyone to their feet. After all, how many couples make their grand entrance to a live dhol player! Heartfelt speeches, great food and dancing made for the perfect night.
Anjali and Davinder, thank you for choosing us to be able to take part in such an incredible day in your lives. We know your love will continue to grow stronger.
