Yup it happened; an editor for a fancy tourist guidebook saw one of my pictures, loved it and wanted to publish it in their guidebook! When I got the e-mail my excitement went through the roof, while jumping up and down doing the happy dance, I calmly and collectively said “sure, we can work something out.” What we worked out was my picture printed in the Los Angeles, California Tourist Schmap Guidebook!
The picture in question was from my Marine Corps days, while stationed out in Camp Pendleton I was a stones throw drive away from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. One that particularly caught my eye and my love for the water was 1,000 Steps Beach, located in Southern Laguna beach right off the Pacific Highway. It’s name comes from the literal steps needed to get down to the beach, the beach is a good ten stories from the main highway and the only way to get down there is to walk down these rickety old wooden stairs. 1,000 is a bit of an exaggeration, there are actually only 217 steps but the hike is worth the view. After long days of work, I would come here to relax, sometimes surf, but always let my worries melt away in the basking of the California Sun. It was the ideal location to get away from the world.
So it was to my surprise and an absolute pleasure when I was informed that one of my images of the 1,000 Steps Beach would be used in a Los Angeles, California tourist guidebook, Schmap I was flabbergasted and truly honored.
If you are ever in Southern California, I would highly recommend that you visit this beach!
